      Beulah N. Atherton, 92, retired Tulsa Public School Teacher, passed away Thursday, April 8, 1999. Beulah Longfellow was born in Pawnee City, NE, May 1, 1906, the second of 4 children. Her family moved to Hobart, OK in 1907. After graduating from Hobart High School in 1924, she attended college at OU and married Aaron S. Atherton on June 1, 1930. She received her degree in Education from OU in 1932 and later completed her Master's degree in Education from the University of Tulsa in 1957. Beulah taught school for 27 years before retiring as a first-grade teacher at Eisenhower Elementary School in 1969. After retirement Beulah served as Secretary-Treasurer of the Women's International Auxiliaries to the International Typographical Union. She and Aaron built their retirement home at Poindexter Club in Snug Harbor on Lake Fort Gibson. While in Wagoner, Beulah was known as a world-class knitter and garnered many blue ribbons in the Tulsa State Fairs and Wagoner County Fairs, and was named Woman of the Year in 1986. Declining health prompted a move to Woodland Terrace in Tulsa, OK in 1994, and after the death of her husband, Beulah lived in her daughter's home in Tulsa. Beulah was preceded in death by Aaron, her husband of almost 67 years. She is survived by: 2 sons and a daughter, James Aaron Atherton, Priscilla A. Langenderfer and John L. Atherton and 8 grandchildren, Aaron, Jaime and Elizabeth Atherton of South Coffeyville, OK, Lucas Langenderfer of Tulsa and Sally, Katy, Becky and Patty Atherton of Tulsa. She was beloved by many and enjoyed her grandchildren, family and many friends. Service will be at All Souls Unitarian Church, Monday, April 12 at 2 p.m. with Brent Smith officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery immediately following. Stanleys.
