    • In 1861 census, now Mary Proctor (28) living at 7 Withens Row, Brinnington with husband Thomas Proctor (23), a tailor and son Arthur/Alfred? Proctor (9 months) born Portwood, Stockport. (The child is `probably`(!) Alfred - 9 Years! - additional point is that Alfred could then have learned his trade of tailor from his step-father Thomas Proctor).
      Alfred Atherton (5383) served with the 2nd Royal Cheshire Militia to his discharge in 1870 (to join Regulars). Cheshire Military Museum Archives have been asked to look at his Militia service record - response was no records held! On a visit to Kew on 19 Mar 2008, I was unable to trace any Militia Records.
      1870 - 1877. Regt No 1823 Pte Alfred Atherton enlisted at age 19 on 4 Jul 1870 into 109 Regiment of Foot (109th Bombay Infantry Regiment) at Manchester and saw Army service in India before being medically discharged on 30 Apr 1877 at Netley with heart problems. Total Army Service was 6 years 290 days. His Army trade was Bleacher. Note: Alfred`s place of discharge, Netley, is within 2 miles of where his Great Great Granddaughter Julie Ann Davies (nee Atherton) lived with her husband Paul Davies and their daughter Kate Margaret Davies 125 years later!

      In 1891 census Miers, Great Longstone, Derby was Alfred Atherton Head M 41 Tailor Journeyman b. Stockport Cheshire, Ada Atherton Wife M 43 b. Liverpool, Ernest Atherton Son 8 b. Great Longstone Derby, Frances M. E. Dau 4 b. Great Longstone Derby and Eva Dau 1 b. Great Longstone Derby.
      In 1901 census living at Rose Cottage Great Longstone Derby was Alfred Atherton Head M 50 Tailor Army Pensioner b. Stockport, Ada Atherton Wife M 49 b. Liverpool, Ernest Atherton Son S 17 Railway Porter b. Great Longstone, Frances Atherton Dau 13 b. Great Longstone and Eva Atherton Dau 11 b. Great Longstone. (RG13/3263/48/13 Schedule 70).

Stockport Cheshire, Ada Atherton Wife M (23 Years) - total children born alive 11, still living 3, died 8 (NB only 4 traced) b. Liverpool Lancs, Eva Atherton Dau S 21 Fancy Embroideress b. Longstone Derbyshire.
